Troubleshooting WordPress Issues

When Astra Sites Won't Import Right

What You Learned

With some hosts, sometimes there will be an issue importing a template with Astra Starter Sites.  If your site doesn’t load correctly after it says it has completed the import, you may have an issue with the PHP version you are running on your hosting.  By default “most” hosting companies will be automatically on PHP 7.0 or 7.1, whereas some might have it set to an older version.  If you come across this issue remember to log into your cPanel, go to software and click on the option to change your PHP version and bump it up to PHP 7.3.  This seems to fix the error and allow for the Astra Starter sites to load quickly and correctly. As stated in the video, after your site has loaded correctly, you can go back and drop the PHP version back down to 7.1 so it won’t possibly conflict with plugins that may not be able to handle the higher version of PHP

The plugin we used to reset WordPress is in the WordPress Repository.  Just go to Plugins —->Add New—–>and do a search for “WP Reset”.  Install and activate.

WP UPDATES & How to Fix a Hacked WP Site

Play Video

What You Learned

This video was made after a colleague came to me with a few sites that were hacked and malicious code was inserted into his file manager.  The code was sending thousands of emails from his domain to people around the world and his URL was tagged as spammy.  It was so bad that his hosting company locked the site down until it was fixed.

Part of the reason was his failure to have the proper security plugins installed like I show in the course and he DIDN’T DO HIS UPDATES REGULARLY.  These actions almost cost him a handful of websites.

There are a plethora of different hacking issues that you will come across with websites.  This video shows and fixes one of the more common ones when you don’t listen to me.

What this video will cover:

  • Running Sucuri Security to find infected files
  • Showing you how to identify possible infected files
  • Installing Ithemes Security and securing the site
  • Finding infected files in File Manager in cPanel and removing them
  • Installing & Configuring IP Blacklist Cloud
  • Reinstalling a new copy of WordPress over the old one for safety
